Safety culture in an aircraft maintenance organisation: A view from the inside

چکیده
This article deals with a case study about the safety culture of an aircraft maintenance organisation. The case study provides ethnographic accounts based on participant observation, interviews and document analysis. Safety culture is specifically related to the development and growth phase of the organisation and explicitly relates safety culture to production interests. The analysis focuses on the various roles and the tensions between the quality assurance and maintenance management departments, and the way aircraft maintenance technicians (AMTs) in practice deal with tensions between safety and production interests. Theoretically this article stresses the value of a process view on organisational development for the analysis of safety culture and the paradoxical relationship between safety and economic

Safety management systems and safety culture in aircraft maintenance organisations
A self-regulatory model was proposed to examine how dierent organisations manage safety, with particular emphasis on the human and organisational aspects. The relationships of dierent aspects of safety culture and safety management systems were explored through the deployment of dierent research measures and methods. Studies of four aircraft maintenance organisations included analysis of doc...
متن کاملImplementation of "MSG-3" for Crack Growth Analysis of Aircraft SSI Components
The main goal of this article is to implement the MSG-3 process in structure field for an SSI component of b747 aircraft. This process is expected toincrease the ease of aircraft maintenance and its safety level. MSG-3 logic took a top-down or consequence of failure approachmeaning that MSG-3 reduces the maintenance cost and upgrades safety. Moreover, it cansignificantly help saving thetime and...
متن کاملThe challenges in defining aviation safety performance indicators
Many States are moving away from a very active role in the supervision of aviation activities. The reasons for this include the large number of inspectors required to perform this function, confusion over safety responsibilities and the need for a large enforcement organization, factors are assumed to contradict the safety culture that is promoted as being an important factor in safety manageme...
متن کاملImproved Turbine Engine Hierarchical Modeling and Simulation Based on Engine Fuel Control System
Aircraft engines constitute a complex system, requiring adequate mon-itoring to ensure flight safety and timely maintenance. The best way to achieve this, is modeling the engine. Therefore, in this paper, a suitable mathematical model from engine controller design point of view, for a specific aero turbine engine is proposed by the aid of MATLAB/Simulink software. The model is capable of reduc...
